Who is "his angel"? Alma 9:25, Alma 10:10

Alma mentions that the Lord send "his angel" to Ammonihah, a particularly wicked place, to help teach the gospel to the people there. Amulek also testifies that he saw the angel while Alma was staying at his house.

So, who is the angel?

There's lots of accounts of angels in the scriptures, and it gets even more weird and interesting when you start looking at some of the revelations of Joseph Smith from 1839. For example, it was revealed to Joseph Smith (and recorded by Willard Richards here) that Noah is the angel Gabriel, and Adam is also known as Michael. There's also all kinds of weird stuff in that revelation about Adam-ondi-Ahman, the End of the World, Jesus Christ's Second Coming, etc. I don't really understand it. To me, it's like, "Okay, so, there's this stuff that I don't understand and frankly, isn't very relevant to my every day experience. I will read about it, learn about, and put it aside most of the time. I don't need to worry about battles between "gog" and "magog".

Here Joseph Smith said some other stuff (and it was recorded by Willard Richards) on the topic of angels. In the New Testament, there's a very well-known parable that Jesus Christ tells his disciples about the Sower. Joseph Smith explained that Christ himself is the Sower, and the reapers are angels. He declared that angels have not ceased to visit mankind on earth today, and that they are given specific tasks and duties to fulfill. There weren't any female angels mentioned, but I think that it's pretty obvious they must be included.

There's a lot of stuff written about angels - who they are, what they do, how they are different from mortal beings, classes of angels, etc. I don't know much about it except that I remember hearing that the idea of a "guardian angel" tends to actually be a deceased ancestor communicating with you from beyond the grave.

There are some things that it would take a very, very powerful spiritual experience, one akin to a visitation from an angel or a very obvious vision, for me to do, because the sacrifice would be to great for me to want to risk making a mistake. I believe that angels are not the normal way for God to reveal his will to man; he usually uses the still small voice of the spirit. In fact, a witness from the spirit can pierce your soul, whereas you can forget or shrug off an experience had with your eyes alone. Angels are basically only effective if accompanied by the spirit. And the style of revelation for our day definitely doesn't seem to include them.
